Locomotive decoder

Decoders are components that allow the track format to be 'decoded'. Two variants are available: locomotive (or vehicle) decoders, which serve to move and stop the locomotive and to take over certain switching functions and switch decoders that serve to address points, signals, level-crossing barriers, lights and other electrical accessories.

Digital plus offers locomotive and function decoders for all purposes. While the more up market Gold series offers an unprecedented range of features and settings for maximum control, the more low-cost SILVER series has slightly less features. All Digital plus locomotive decoders are NMRA-conformal.

  • digital plus locomotive decoders support 9999 addresses
  • all recent Digital plus decoders can be operated with 14, 27, 18 or 128 speed steps
  • easy change of addresses with manual control
  • address, starting voltage, starting and breaking delays, and many other features can be set
  • one highlight is the user-defined speed line
  • most features can be programmed in operational mode ('PoM')
  • recent decoders allow function outputs to be assigned to the function keys of operating devices
  • operation on conventional, analogue DC layouts
  • automatic recognition of digital and analogue operation facilitates seamless change between digital and analogue layout sections.

Digital plus locomotive decoders are chosen based on the load capacity of the motor output (not on the space available inside the locomotive). The most important criterion when selecting a decoder is that the decoder must be able to meet the power requirements of the motor, lights, and other accessories.

The Silver decoder is a less expensive variant of Gold decoders. More upmarket features (e.g. RailCom, USP, S.U.S.I.) have been omitted to facilitate the design of a more low-cost, easy-to-install decoder. The Silver decoder is equipped on one side only, making for an extremely flat design that facilitates installation considerably.

Except for RailCom, USP and S.U.S.I., the Silver decoder has all other Gold features, such as ABC or thermal overload and short-circuit protection.
