Fleischmann N 741202: DB BR 612 3 Car DMU: Era 4

The “egg head” Railcar.

Appropriately named because of its rounded, streamlined front, this diesel railcar epitomises the birth years of the Deutsche Bundesbahn [German Federal Railways] in the days rebuilding the nation and its rail network following the Second World War.
The Class VT 12.5/612 refers to the early diesel railcar of the German Federal Railways , which was first built in 1953. They could be run as two-, three-or four-piece sets. The VT 12.5/612 possessed compartments in two classes. With the experience gained from the experimental unit VT 92, the railcar VT 12.5 VT was designed for regional services and used as such until 1984.
After initial operations around Cologne and Dortmund the railcars were stationed for many years in Hamburg- Altona, and Brunswick. With the renumbering system in 1968, they were classified as class 612. Externally, the VT 12.5 can be distinguished from VT 08.5 by the additional central entrance doors.
Another difference relates to the heating system: The VT 12.5 had a central train heating for the entire train, while the VT 08.5 had independent heating systems in each car. In 1988 a Stuttgart- DB- 612 diesel multiple Leisure Group took 612 506/507 with the middle cars 912 501 and 507 for refurbishment.
After successful restoration , the Multiple Unit based on the Stuttgart emblem on the name "Stuttgarter Rössle " appeared.
The FLEISCHMANN model has double headlights and 2 red tail lights.
