EFE 16133M Leyland PD2 Highbridge Southdown : Route 7A Lancing Manor

Southdown Leyland PD2 bus – Service 7A to Lancing Manor

North Lancing was first served by bus service 7 in 1936 when alternate journeys of the existing service from Worthing to Lancing via Broadwater, and Cokeham Road, were diverted to Lancing Manor via Manor Road (later numbered 7A), and extended on a circular route back to Worthing via the seafront.  Although Manor Road and North Lancing are still served by route 7, during the intervening period there have been many route changes and periods when the routes were numbered 7 & 17 and later 207 & 217.

Southdown purchased 80 of these Leyland PD2s in 1948, and after use on the inter-town routes, they were cascaded to town services (including Worthing) when replaced by newer buses with platform doors. The last were withdrawn in 1967.

This model, produced to mark the 50th Anniversary of the opening of J Morris Model Shop in Manor Road Lancing (now Morris Models), displays typical period adverts for local Worthing businesses.
